Court Rules in Favor of Santa Rosa Institute in Patent Dispute

The Santa Rosa Institute today announced that Judge Jeffrey Z. Fierstein of the Federal District Court for the District of New Mexico granted summary judgment that the Italian biotechnology company Berlucci has infringed on patents held by the Santa Rosa Institute (U.S. Patent Nos. 5,376,411 and 5,795,178). In his summation, the judge wrote, "it is now appropriate to enter final judgment for the Santa Rosa Institute in an appropriate form."

The Santa Rosa Institute is currently testing Genuflex for as a means of extending the human life span. Berlucci is developing a competing product. The patents relate to methods for producing these life-extension products.

Edward Westhead, M.D., Ph.D., the Institute's President and Chief Executive Officer, said, "we are very pleased with today's ruling. We have always been very confident we had a strong legal position in this dispute, and today's decision vindicates our position. We are anxious to put this matter behind us."
